Role of the Priests

A priest serves God and the Church as an ordained minister, a form of ministry that is best understood as one of leadership in the ecclesial community. The priest is called primarily to administer the Sacraments of the Church. The priest is also called to proclaim the Word of God through preaching, to call the ecclesial community of the Church to prayer, and to walk with people in their journey of faith.

While the ministry a priest in the Roman Catholic Church carries out is essential to the life of the entire Church, a priest, like all Baptized followers of Christ, is first of all to be a man of faith and prayer. Without the energy that flows from a life rooted in daily prayer the ministry of a priest would be empty. A priest is daily called to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, to meditate on Sacred Scripture, to celebrate the Sacraments of the Church – to root himself in prayer, in relationship with God, so that his ministry will produce much fruit. The ministry of a priest must reflect a love of Christ.

As a priest within the Congregation of the Resurrection he is called to a variety of ministries. A Resurrectionist priest may serve as pastor, associate pastor, teacher, youth minister, missionary, counselor, etc – any ministry that helps in the fulfillment of the Charism of the Congregation of the Resurrection.
